The object of the Wensum Valley Trust, as defined in the Constitution adopted at the inaugural meeting on the 26th March 2007 is "To promote the conservation, protection and improvement of the physical and natural environment".
The trustees resolved at their first meeting to achieve this by the following means:
Biodiversity, landscape conservation, culture and heritage
Conserving and enhancing the countryside of the River Wensum Catchment, in particular its varied landscape, habitats and biodiversity, and archaeological and cultural heritage.
Countryside recreation, access and tourism
Facilitating the quiet enjoyment of the area for local people and visitors to the area in so far as this is consistent with the other objectives and with needs of existing land users and the local economy.
Promoting understanding of the area and the need for its conservation amongst local residents and visitors to the area.
Community action and involvement
Encouraging participation by all sections of the local community in all aspects of the Wensum Valley Strategy and other work of the Trust.
Sustainable development
Seeking to ensure that activities and development are appropriately carefully assessed and implemented in line with the conservation needs of the area.
Promoting co-ordinated management which makes best use of resources and minimises conflict.
Local economy
Contributing towards the local economy by providing an attractive, diverse and accessible environment.
