Pensthorpe, near Fakenham is set in 500 acres of the beautiful Wensum Valley, with miles of nature trails to explore through ancient fen meadows, woodland and lakes. Pensthorpe is home to a fine collection of waterfowl including endangered exotic species from around the world, an award-winning garden, a café, a gift shop and temporary exhibitions. Located just east of Fakenham off the A1067.

 

Fakenham Gas Works Museum

The museum of Gas at Fakenham.

Opened in 1846 this is the only town gas works in England and Wales to survive in almost complete condition. Located on Hempton Road next to Fakenham Tyres. Open Thursdays. For more information phone 01328 863150 or Dr Bridges on 01328 863507.

 

County School Station, North Elmham. A restored Victorian railway station with picnic area, orchard and railway cafe. Displays tell the story of County School and old Great Eastern Railway Station. Free entry, with the grounds open at all times. Cafe open (usually Easter – Sept) every Sunday and some bank holidays with teas from 11am – 4pm. Located just north of North Elmham on the B1110 Holt Road.

 

Gressenhall Rural Life Museum and Union Farm
Union Farm at Gressenhall Rural Life MuseumSet in 50 beautiful acres of the Whitewater Valley (tributary of the Wensum), this delightful and unique museum offers a wonderful range of things to see and do. Dig deeper into Norfolk’s rural past as you explore stunning displays and visit traditional cottages and shops. Explore a Georgian workhouse and hear stories of the people who lived there. Amble through tranquil gardens and a historic orchard, meet rare breed farm animals or simply sit and savour the lovely views. Located just off the B1146 Fakenham Road at Beetley.

 

Norfolk Wildlife Centre and Country Park, Great Witchingham 
European mammals and waterfowl in 40 acres of parkland. Located off the A1067.

 

Dinosaur Park, near Lenwade

Dinosaur trail, Neanderthal walk and lots more, set in 100 acres of beautiful wooded parkland. Located off the A1067.
