> Canoeing

The River Wensum is a tranquil setting for canoeists, with generally placid waters and some good canoe runs at the bridges.

However, there is no right of navigation on the River Wensum upstream of Hellesdon Mill. Permission to canoe on the river should be obtained from individual land owners, unless done with a canoe club that already has an agreement with the land owners.

Canoeing on the Wensum near Hellesdon Road in Norwich.Three canoe clubs operate along the River Wensum; the Eagle Canoe Club (Norwich), the Dereham Canoe Club (Scott Turner, "Angle Lodge, Hoe Road, Swanton Morley, Dereham Norfolk NR20 4PU" 01362 637 153) and Wensum Osprey Club (Fakenham). At Norwich and Fakenham, the waters are adjacent to public rights of way and access is easy. The Dereham Canoe Club operates by permission from a riparian landowner at Swanton Morley.
