> Wildlife in the Wensum Valley

In 1988, when the Wensum Valley Project was established, the Wensum Valley was known to be important for wildlife. Various wildlife surveys had been carried out and local wildlife enthusiasts were continuing to survey and monitor local sites and areas for particular species.

In 1981 an ecological review of the Valley from Ringland to Norwich concluded that the Wensum Valley ‘contains many sites of some interest, and a few of great significance, but its chief value lies in the variety of habitat found in a relatively small area.'
